Union Square Shopping

Face it, San Francisco is a shopping destination - and there is no part of the city that is quite so good at separating shoppers with their hard-earned money than Union Square.

I reluctantly went shopping with my wife - well, that's not exactly true. I was only planning on making one stop. I wanted to go to the Nike store to get a heart rate monitor (which I did and I love it, by the way). After walking a few blocks I decided to wander in to the Lacoste store - I wasn't going to buy anything, I just wanted to look at what they had. Living in Utah the only place I can find Lacoste shirts is at Nordstrom.

I was surprised that the shirts that I like so much that usually sell for $90-100 in Utah were only $62 - and so I made a purchase... and then another... and then another.

You get the idea - but the point is that no matter what type of specialty shop you're looking for, you'll find it in San Francisco. During the day you're probably going to get hungry and want a break - there are a lot of nice restaurants in the area, but if you just want to grab something cheap (and pretty good), head to Macy's in Union Square and go to the basement. I recommend a bread bowl of clam chowder at Boudin's (though they have been known to run out of bread bowls on occasion).
