JW Marriott Union Square

The JW Marriott right in Union Square was a pleasant surprise - the price was very reasonable and the location was perfect for exploring the city on foot. The room was spacious enough for our family of 3 and the suite (an extra $50/night) was large enough to comfortably fit a family of 4 (the children are both teenagers).

Don't just take my written word for it, see the inside of the hotel itself:
The Good
Location - This is the ideal location for exploring union square. It is within walking distance to great restaurants, stores and just a short cable car ride to other fun stuff (such as Fisherman's wharf). If you really want to experience San Franscisco you will not find a better location.
Price - I'm not sure if it is seasonal or related to the state of the economy but we got a really good price on two rooms (arriving on Christmas day). Obviously it is not going to be as cheap as a 3-star hotel, but by 5-star hotel standards this is one of the best values in San Francisco.

The Bad
Bathroom size - I don't know the exact square footage of the room (see the video above), but it is large. I don't understand why they didn't take some of the square footage and put it in the bathroom. The bathroom is tiny and doesn't have a tub. This was a big minus traveling with a toddler - if you want a decent-sized bathroom you should upgrade to a suite (which does have a bathtub), but the shower itself is the same size.
Check-in - There was always a line for check-in/check-out with only one person working there. I will never understand why checking people who have reservations in to a hotel takes so long (not just at this hotel, everywhere), but it seemed even longer while waiting in a long line of people.
Carpet - This was a really small detail that really didn't even bother me but the carpet is showing quite a bit of wear.
Strict policy - As mentioned earlier, we were traveling with a family of four. We had booked a regular room assuming that we could get 2 rollaway beds, but there hotel policy is that they will only put one rollaway in each room. I thought they should at least allow us to pay for the extra rollaway (there was plenty of room for the extra beds).

Conclusion
Despite the couple of complaints, I really loved this hotel and would go back in a second. I highly recommend it for anybody traveling with a family or group of people. Just keep in mind that if you are bringing kids you will either have to bath them in the shower or sink (unless you upgrade to a suite).
