Honey Honey Cafe and CreperyRecommended for: People who like crepes, people who want a reasonably-priced breakfast near Union Square, casual diners, large groups, children Not recommended for: Those looking for a sit-down dining experience We were staying at the JW Marriott in Union Square so this place almost seemed too convenient (it is on the same block). After eating there, however, we decided we had to eat there again the next day. One cool thing about this restaurant is that they serve all of their crepes (including breakfast crepes) all day. That was a plus for us since we were eating breakfast around 11:30. Atmosphere There was a pretty hip crowd here but not so much that we felt out of place with our 18-month old son. They have highchairs available (at one point at least three of us in there had children in high chairs) and there is plenty of room to spread out (especially when compared to Brenda's French Soul Food down the road). The Wait I'm not sure if we were lucky or what but we never had to wait more than a few minutes for a table (our total group was seven people). This is not a "sitdown restaurant" - you stand in line and order your food and they give you a number. When your order is available they bring it to your table. This seemed to keep everything streamlined and they were serving a lot of guests simultaneously. The Food I had read some online reviews which led me to believe that their dessert crepes are better than their savory crepes. I couldn't resist the savory crepes, however, and the first day I ordered a breakfast crepe. This was delicious. I highly recommend it (it has green peppers, onions, ham and cheddar cheese). My wife actually ordered the same thing but held the green peppers and onions the next day and I really liked that too. I did try a dessert crepe, but it didn't taste as good to me as the salty, cheesy goodness that was the breakfast crepe. If you're just going to go here once I recommend going with somebody else and sharing a savory and a dessert crepe so you can try everything they have to offer. My mother-in-law was really happy with their hot chocolate (and happy that they had it available since they hadn't had it at Brenda's where we ate a day earlier). Service Service was really fast and friendly. Both days we made mistakes ordering and they helped us out without requiring us to stand in line again. We never felt like the staff was annoyed with us bringing a baby in (and trust me, that happens a lot, especially in big cities). Price You can easily keep your meal cost under $10 per person here. Considering the proximity to Union Square and the quality of the food this was a great overall value. include('/tmp/comments_inc_do_not_remove/comments/comments_template.php') ?> |
